This series was born out of the elusive search for form + function, and the mantra, “touch the art.”

For many years, I have created collage works that were fixed in place as a single composition. The process of collage is very iterative, and the final positions do not always reflect the many different arrangements that were explored along the way. 

“Don’t touch the art” was a phrase I have caught myself saying endlessly when with my curious son in art galleries. This saying has such a negative connotation. I hated saying it because I was restricting his creative experience, and that made me sad. I wanted to transmute this negative/sad statement into a mantra of joy.

“Touch the art” inspired me to create an experience to invite the viewer to take control of the collage elements and create something unique. Instead of just staring at the works, I want people to take control.
